Exhibitions at Galleri Riis:

"Conversation", Siri Aurdal - March 9th - April 27th
Galleri Riis is pleased to announce our first solo exhibition with the Norwegian artist Siri Aurdal (b. 1937). As a painter, graphic artist and sculptor, Aurdal is an innovative figure in contemporary Scandinavian art history, with her experimental use of industrial materials, organic forms, and monumental installations in which the audience often plays a cooperative role. In her work, Aurdal emphasizes art's social and political potential, and her innovative use of fiberglass reinforced polyester tubes were prominent in her breakthrough installation Surroundings in Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo in 1969, as well as in major works produced for the Nordic Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2017 and her large survey Continuum in Malmö Konsthall last year. "40 pictures", Stein Rønning - March 9th - March 30th
Opening reception with the Artist on Saturday March 9th from 12-16. One way of understanding the birth of the modern picture would be to see it as a result of the Holy Communion. At the time of its institution in the 11th century, the average person probably experienced only one picture during his or her lifetime, most likely an altarpiece in the local church.

Galleri Riis was founded in Trondheim in 1972 by collectors Inger and Andreas L. Riis, and it has been based in Oslo since 1980. From 2011 to 2017 the gallery operated a second space in Stockholm which confirmed the gallery´s importance on the Scandinavian art scene.

The gallery now maintains a by appointment office and showroom in Stockholm; and in August 2016, the Oslo gallery relocated to a renovated 1890's residential building in the city centre. The current exhibition program reflects a long-standing history, with a primary focus on important contemporary art from the Nordic countries including a selective spotlight on international artists.

The gallery has over the years also mounted a number of historic exhibitions with contemporary and modern masters. Galleri Riis is owned and directed by Espen Ryvarden and Kristin Elisabeth Bråten.
